ScanSSH: Scanning the Internet for SSH Servers
نویسندگان
چکیده
SSH is a widely used application that provides secure remote login. It uses strong cryptography to provide authentication and confidentiality. The IETF SecSH working group is developing SSH v2, an improved SSH protocol that fixes cryptographic and design flaws in the SSH v1 protocol. SSH v2 compatible server software is widespread. Recently discovered security flaws make it critically important to find vulnerable SSH servers and update them. In this paper, we describe a method to determine with good precision how many servers supporting the various protocol versions have been deployed on the net. We describe the design and implementation of ScanSSH, a scanner that probes SSH servers for their software version, and discuss the results of scanning the Internet and our local networks for several months.

A Study of Passwords and Methods Used in Brute-Force SSH Attacks
In its Top-20 Security Risks report for 2007, the SANS Institute called brute-force password guessing attacks against SSH, FTP and telnet servers “the most common form of attack to compromise servers facing the Internet.” A recent study also suggests that Linux systems may play an important role in the command and control networks for botnets. Defending against brute-force SSH attacks may there...

متن کاملProposal and Implementation of SSH Client System Using Ajax
Technology called Ajax gives web applications the functionality and operability of desktop applications. In this study, we propose and implement a Secure Shell (SSH) client system using Ajax, independent of the OS or Java execution environment. In this system, SSH packets are generated on a web browser by using JavaScript and a web server works as a proxy in communication with an SSH server to ...
متن کاملSome Issues with Extension of an HPC Cluster
Homemade HPC clusters are widely used in many small labs, because they are easy to build and cost-effective. Even though incremental growth is an advantage of clusters, it results in heterogeneous systems anyhow. Instead of adding new nodes to the cluster, we can extend clusters to include some other Internet servers working independently on the same LAN, so that we can make use of their idle t...
